Concello de Mugardos

The town /

Location

Mugardos is located in the northern area of A Coruña province, on the southern shore of the Ferrol estuary, within the Artabric Gulf, made up of the Corunna, Betanzos, Ares and Ferrol estuaries.

The estuary Mugardos is integrated in stretches down to the Xubia river mouth, in the shape of a funnel that, due to its narrowness and its strategic location, forms one of the best natural ports in the world.

Mugardos belongs to the region of Ferrol, characterized by an eternally green landscape and by its beautiful, spectacular coast. It is an unavoidable passage of the so-called “English road” to Santiago de Compostela, which attracts many pilgrims from the British Isles and the north of Europe.

With a surface area of barely 12.96 km2, Mugardos is one of the smallest municipalities in Galicia, but is very densely populated, with some 5,600 inhabitants distributed among its four parishes: Franza, Meá, Mugardos and Piñeiro.
